Key West Cruise Ship Mooring Destroyed In Collision With Rogue Ship
According to the Miami Herald, a recent cruise ship collision with a mooring in Key West has caused serious damage to the port.
The report indicates that on November 27 the Silversea Silver Spirit cruise ship crashed into its mooring at Mallory Square, after the ship became caught in heavy winds. The damage to the mooring was substantial, with one U.S. Coast Guard official describing the mooring has having been destroyed.
Though there were no injuries reported in the incident, the Key West’s City Manager, Jim Scholl, estimates the damage at about $500,000. Officials estimate that no ships will be able to dock at the mooring for three months.
A video of the collision was uploaded online.
