Hit and Run Injures Two Bicyclists and Results in Arrest of Elderly Woman
A hit-and-run crash that left two bicyclists injured last week has resulted in the arrest of an elderly driver.
ClickOrlando.com reports that on October 30, two cyclists were struck by a Mercedes-Benz while they were traveling south on Morse Boulevard. The collision threw the cyclists from their bikes, causing significant damage to the automobile and prompting the vehicle’s driver to stop. Witnesses say that she initially exited the vehicle, then returned to her car and fled the scene.
Police later identified the suspected hit-and-run driver as 89-year-old Marilyn Jean Hamilton of The Villages. Police arrested her and booked her at Sumter County Jail.
According to ClickOrlando.com, police charged Hamilton with criminal counts, including two counts of leaving the scene of a crash with injury.
