Good Samaritan Rescues Distressed Shrimpers off Jacksonville Coast
A group of shrimpers found themselves in a very precarious position on Wednesday after the boat on which they were sailing struck a jetty near Fort Clinch State Park. The collision, which occurred at about 9:30 a.m., caused a breach in the hull of the shrimping boat and resulted in it taking on water. As the ship was going down, a Good Samaritan in the area came to the shrimpers’ rescue.
News4Jax.com reports that Captain Alan Mills of AC Charters saw the distressed boat and came to the shrimpers’ aid. “They were relieved. They laid right here. They were in shock for a while. I had a charter on board, and the kids were all excited, like, wow this is pretty crazy,” Mills said.
Mills says that the area surrounding the jetty can be dangerous, especially this time of year.
None of the shrimpers were reported injured.
