Florida Has Become Nation’s Epicenter of Maritime Crashes
According to a new report, Florida is one of the most dangerous places in the country to be a boater.
MiamiHerald.com reports that the state has seen a dramatic increase in maritime crashes and deaths over the past year.
The epicenter of the injuries and deaths is in South Florida and the Florida Keys, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) says. Lieutenant Seth Wagner of FWC says “It is important for boaters to keep in mind that a vessel should be treated with the same responsibility as a car or truck so everyone can enjoy Florida’s beautiful waters.”
Florida authorities remind boaters that it is illegal to drink and operate a boat or operate a vessel while under the influence of any illegal substance.
According to another FWC official, the law enforcement agency will be “out looking for impaired boaters and making sure everyone has a safe experience on the water.”
