Elderly Woman Severely Injured in Jacksonville Inflatable Boat Crash
An elderly Florida woman is in the hospital after being involved in a maritime crash on Saturday.
ActionNewsJax.com reports that the incident occurred when a 60-something-year-old man was driving an inflatable boat at Vilano Beach Pier in Jacksonville on Saturday afternoon. The driver of the boat apparently drove it into a pier, resulting in the victim’s serious injuries.
A fisherman who was in the vicinity of the incident said that he was putting a rod out when “we heard a smack, and then everybody ran to this side.” The fisherman, Raymond Tezack said that he jumped in the water to help the woman but that he had to get out of the water because the current was too strong and was starting to sweep him away.
First responders eventually pulled the victim from the water and then transported her to Memorial Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating the incident.
