Detectives Search for Driver in Deadly Miami Beach Crash
A hit-and-run crash in Miami Beach left one person left one person dead on Thursday evening, and now officers are looking for the driver of the vehicle that fled the scene.
Lcoal10.com reports that someone driving a white 2020 Kia Sorrento, Florida tag KCMD06, was involved in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 50 something-year-old victim. Detectives allege that the driver of the Sorrento ran over the victim as the victim was crossing fifth Street at Michigan Avenue at approximately 7 p.m. Instead of stopping as required by Florida law, the perpetrator sped away westbound on the MacArthur Causeway.
The victim was left with serious injuries and died at the hospital on Friday morning.
According to Officer Ernesto Rodriguez of the Miami Beach Police Department, the driver had the right-of-way. But, because the driver fled the scene he will likely face charges. In a statement, Rodriguez said “The vehicle had the right of way, the pedestrian did not. That vehicle, though, chose to not stop and fled, which resulted in this man’s death.”
