Cyclist Seriously Injured in Hit-and-Run on Rickenbacker Causeway
A bicyclist was injured in a collision with a vehicle in South Florida on Tuesday.
The cyclist, identified by Local10.com as 50-year-old father of three Jorge Ruoco, was riding on the Rickenbacker Causeway at about 7:00 pm Tuesday evening when he was struck by a vehicle. Ruoco was in the bike lane at the time of the crash, which sent him hurtling through the air. He was wearing his helmet at the time of the incident, which may have saved his life.
Local10.com reports that Ruoco is in stable condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital, and it appears he is expected to survive. He is battling serious facial fractures and injures to his spine.
The diver who struck Ruoco fled the scene of the crash. Miami-Dade police are requesting that anyone with information about the incident contact them immediately.
