Cruise Lines Struggle with Sexual Assault Problem
Most cruise ship passengers are unaware of the fact that cruise lines have a relatively high incidence of sexual assault, when compared to the ships’ rates of most other crimes. Put simply, cruise ships suffer more sexual assault and rape than most other forms of crime combined.
Recent data shows that the demographics most commonly victimized aboard cruise ships are women and children.
Though recent data shows an increase in the percentage of passengers who commit sexual assault, when compared with the percentage of crew members who sexually assault guests, there are still dozens of crew member committed acts ever year.
About eight years ago a Canadian researcher issued a study that indicated that the rate of sexual assault aboard cruise ships is higher than the rate on land in Canada.
