Champlain Towers South Death Toll Rises Dramatically As Hurricane Threatens
The death toll from the Champlain Towers South collapse rose dramatically over the 4th of July weekend to 36.
NBCNews.com reports that over the past two days authorities recovered eight bodies, bringing the total to 36, with twenty-nine of the victims having been identified.
109 people remain missing and authorities report that 70 of those were confirmed to have been in the Champlain Towers South at the time of the collapse on June 24.
Authorities have reported some difficulties determining the exact number of people missing as they have encountered some problems contacting families who originally reported people missing.
Authorities continued to work into Tuesday, despite the fact that Tropical Storm Elsa threatened the area with winds and heavy rains.
