Celebrity Infinity Suffers Fatality
The Celebrity Infinity cruise ship is in a holding pattern off the coast of Florida, filled with crew members who have not been able to leave the ship during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. After the successful docking of the Holland America ships Zandaam and Rotterdam yesterday, it is still unclear what will happen to the ships’ crew members.
Adding to the uncertainty of the tragedy, today authorities revealed that, like the Zandaam, the Infinity has suffered an onboard fatality. Authorities reported that a cruise ship passenger died aboard the vessel recently.
USAToday.com reports that Royal Caribbean spokesperson Jonathon Fishman confirmed the death today. Royal Caribbean is the parent company of Celebrity Cruises.
In addition to the death, Royal Caribbean reports that authorities evacuated two crew members from the Oasis of the Seas “for medical reasons.”
Officials have not confirmed whether the death and medical evacuations are related to the COVID-19 pandemic that is gripping the world.
