Care Worker Arrested After Alleged Sexual Abuse of Elderly Patient Caught on Tape
Abuse of the elderly is back in the spotlight after a South Florida man was arrested and charged with abusing a vulnerable patient under his care late last week.
Local10.com reports that 56-year-old Alfredo Gutierrez was arrested Friday at his place of employment, OpusCare on Southwest 80th Street. Authorities are charging Gutierrez with lewd and lascivious molestation on an elderly person for an incident that reportedly occurred at the home of an 85-year-old patient and was caught on security camera.
The report indicates that Gutierrez allegedly took the victim’s hands and rubbed them over himself inappropriately. The alleged victim’s daughter provided a video of the incident to the police.
A statement by OpusCare says that Gutierrez “had absolutely no blemishes on his record,” and asserts that OpusCare is “very disturbed by these allegations and have cooperated and will continue to cooperate with the Department of Children’s and Families, the police and the family.”
