Boy Declared Brain-Dead After Being Hit By Car Running Red-Light

An 11-year-old boy who was struck by a car earlier this month has now been declared brain-dead his family says.

Local10.com reports that on February 10 Anthony Reznik and his sister were crossing the street in a marked crosswalk near 300 Sunny Isles Blvd. when a vehicle hit him after running a red light. The force of the impact resulted in serious head injuries and left Reznik in critical condition.

First responders airlifted Anthony to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital for treatment, but after two weeks in the hospital, doctors declared him brain-dead.

After receiving the news Anthony’s family decided to use his life to help save the lives of other children. Before removing him from life support they decided “that this healthy boy can help and save lives of other kids . . . it looks like seven lives and it is very important for our daughter, his older sister as well, because she sees him as a hero,” said Anthony’s father.

So far, no charges have been filed against the driver who struck Anthony and his sister. The crash remains under investigation.
