Boy Airlifted to Hospital After Being Injured While Diving in the Florida Keys
A boy was airlifted to a local hospital after he suffered a severe injury while diving in the Florida Keys.
KrocNews.com reports that the 11-year-old victim is from Rochester, Minnesota. He and his family were diving aboard a commercial boat in about 20 feet of water at Looe Key Reef when he suddenly began to convulse and lost consciousness after surfacing.
The Sherriff’s Office received notice of the emergency at about 10:49 a.m. and authorities responded with a medical evacuation by helicopter to a Miami area hospital. The boy is reportedly in stable condition and is expected to recover.
The boy had reportedly been diving for about 35 minutes when he suffered a medical emergency. The boat was staffed with a divemaster.
