Automaker Genesis Announces Auto Recall Due to Fire Risk
Automaker Genesis is recalling tens of thousands of vehicles due to a defect that could result in fire.
ConsumerReports.com reports that Genesis is recalling more than 95,000 vehicles due to defective Anti-Lock Braking modules that could be prone to short-circuiting and catching fire.
Genesis has identified G70 model years 2019 – 2021 and G80 model years 2015 – 2020 for recall.
The company has reported at least five total fires between the two models to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, the agency that oversees auto recalls. Genesis reports that it has not linked any crashes or injuries to the defect, but the company appears to be taking the issue seriously.
Genesis says that the risk of fire is so serious that it is advising owners of the affected vehicles to park outdoors and away from structures until they can have the defect corrected. It says that signs that a car may be catching fire include smoke or a burning or melting smell in the vehicle.
