Officer Michael Skinner reported that the boat’s pilot initially noticed that the vessel was having mechanical problems, and after first shutting the boat off for a time, then turning it on in order to return to shore, he noticed the vessel was on fire.
Fire crews and Good Samaritans responded to the scene of the fire where they found 9 people in need of rescuing. The rescuers were able to pull all of the boat’s occupants from the vessel before anyone was seriously harmed.
Though first responders were able to put the fire out within about 10 minutes, the fire completely destroyed the vessel. Officials expect to remove the boat from the water on Monday.
