34 People Hospitalized after Buses Carrying Children Crash
WSAV.com reports that two buses carrying a total of 91 children collided on Friday, as they were traveling in Lakeland, Florida.
The crash was reportedly initiated when a pickup truck and trailer suddenly braked in order to turn into a driveway. The trailer’s lights were not working properly, and the bus driver following the truck was startled by the vehicle’s seeming sudden deceleration. After the first bus slowed rapidly to avoid hitting the truck and trailer, the second bus ran into the first bus.
The impact of the collision resulted in 31 students and three adults being hospitalized with relatively minor injuries.
The driver of the truck was cited for driving with defective lights, while the driver of the second bus was cited for careless driving.
