2021 Daytona Bike Week Sees 8 Deaths and 91 Serious Injuries
It has been a deadly Bike Week 2021 in Daytona as the eighth biker has died of injuries sustained in a crash.
UnionLeader.com reports that on the afternoon of March 9 the biker was involved in a crash with a school bus. 29-year-old Seth A. Whitmer crashed into the bus, which was carrying 14 Mainland High School students at the time. As Whitmer was traveling southbound on Nova Road he reportedly ran a red light at Madison Avenue and crashed into the front driver’s side of the bus.
The crash threw Whitmer from his bike, resulting in serious injuries. First responders transported him to Halifax Medical Center for treatment. After battling for his life, Whitmer succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, March 18. No one else was reported injured in the incident.
Union Leader reports that seven other people died and up to 91 people were seriously injured in other motorcycle crashes during Bike Week 2021, which lasted from March 5 – 14. 2020 saw six deaths during Bike Week.
