Apparently, the crash was caused by a 72-year-old man who was switching lanes as he approached the exit at State Road 64, and crashed into the side of Hernandez’s car. The collision sent Hernandez into a grassy median where he crashed into a steel pole.
Hernandez was transported to Manatee Memorial Hospital where he later died.
In a statement, MCSO public information officer Randy Warren said “Antonio was a talented, hardworking deputy who showed professionalism and always had a smile. He will be missed..Please keep the Hernandez family, friends, and his law enforcement family in your thoughts and prayers.”
