Jury Awards Disney Cruise Line Worker $4 Million Verdict in Medical Malpractice Case
A jury has returned a massive award to a cruise ship worker who was injured while working for Disney Cruise Line.
ClickOrlando.com reports that cruise worker Maria Ana Reis Martins was injured in a hit-and-run car crash while working for the Disney Cruise Line in 2013. The car crashed into her while she was ashore at the Bahamas, leaving her with serious injuries. Despite her injuries, including three broken ribs. the ship’s medical personnel cleared Reis Martins to return to work.
A Florida doctor later examined Reis Martins and diagnosed the broken ribs. Reis Martins returned to Portugal for five months of treatment and returned to work in 2014. But due to nerve damage, she was unable to continue with her employment.
The Brevard County jury that heard the case awarded her $2 million for lost earnings and $1 each for pain and suffering and as punitive damages against the cruise line.
