Investigators Find Possible Cause for Teen’s Death at Orlando Theme Park
Investigators looking into the theme park-related death of a 14-year-old boy in Orlando last month have found that sensors aboard the ride had been manually adjusted before the tragedy.

Local10.com reports that someone manually adjusted the sensors to double the size of the restraint’s opening. Instead of having a normal opening of 3.3 inches the opening of the restraint where 14-year-old Tyre Sampson was sitting may have been up to 7.1 inches. The report notes that Sampson was very large for his age, standing 6’5” and weighing over 300 pounds.
“The cause of the subject accident was that Tyre Sampson was not properly secured in the seat primarily due to mis-adjustment of the harness proximity sensors,” said Quest Engineering and Failure Analysis, Inc. in a report.
When Sampson slipped from the ride at the ICON Park in Orlando, he was traveling as fast as 75 mph upon slamming into the ground.
