Hyundai Recalls 130,000 Vehicles Due to Engine Fire Risk
Automaker Hyundai is recalling over 100,000 vehicles in the U.S. and Canada as a result of defects that could lead to the vehicles’ engines catching fire.
AutoServiceWorld.com reports that Hyundai is recalling 130,000 vehicles, including 2017 Tucson and Sonata models. The vehicles’ power system includes a 2.0-litre inline-4 “Nu” gas engine which can seize as a result of defective rod bearings. The seizure can cause the rod to damage the engine, potentially leading to an oil leak which can result in a fire.

Owners whose vehicles are suffering from the issue may notice a knocking sound, illumination of the check engine or check oil light, or smoke coming from the engine.
Hyundai has reportedly investigated nearly 4 dozen engine fires stemming from the defect but as of yet, no injuries have been linked to it.
