FSU Jazz Student Killed in Hit-And-Run
A student at Florida State University was killed this week when he was the victim of a hit-and-run crash.
Tallahassee.com reports that Blake Bennett was killed on W. Pensacola St. by a driver who authorities believe was driving at a high rate of speed. Apparently, Bennett had been practicing with another colleague at an apartment on Tuesday night when he told his colleague that he was going to get some food and would be right back. As Bennett traveled on W. Pensacola St. the driver struck Bennett, who was on a scooter, and then fled the scene. Bennett was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bennett was a promising FSU jazz student. The article quotes Prof. of jazz trumpet Scotty Barnhart as saying that “Blake was a great young man, a beautiful cat. He was one of the best trumpet students I ever had. The jazz department has canceled all its stuff for today and tomorrow.”
Investigators have not identified a suspect or suspected vehicle. They have indicated that a blue Mustang model year 1999-2004 may have been involved.
