Fort Lauderdale Hit-and-Run Caught on Tape – Victim Survives
As the state of Florida observes a statewide “Stay at the Scene” month, meant to bring awareness to the dangers of hit-and-run crashes, a particularly dangerous hit-and-run collision has been caught on tape.
Local10.com reports that the collision occurred in Fort Lauderdale at about 2:30 am on January 16. The victim, Matthew Masters, was crossing the crosswalk at Northwest 16th Street and 7th Avenue with his bicycle when suddenly a vehicle struck him, hurtling him into the air.
Fortunately for Masters, soon after the incident a sanitation truck worker spotted him and came to his aid. Masters was seriously injured in the crash, suffering numerous fractured bones including his pelvis and knee. But despite his injuries, Masters has been recovering since the incident.
“I just heard the rev of the engine, a speeding car, and I just got hit. And all of the sudden I woke up on the side of the road,” Masters said.
Masters believes the car that struck him was white, and evidence at the scene leads investigators to believe that the vehicle was a late model Nissan.
