Ford Recalls Nearly 3 Million Vehicles for Roll Away Risk
Automaker Ford is recalling nearly 3 million vehicles in the United States due to a defect that could cause the vehicles to roll away while the transmission is in park.
TheHill.com reports that Ford filed documents with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicating that the defect involves brushing that attaches the shift cable to the transmission. Over time the brushing could degrade, potentially preventing the vehicle’s shifter from moving the transmission into park.

In some cases, the defect could result in the vehicles rolling away.
Ford disclosed that it is aware of at least four reports of injury and six property damage claims resulting from the defect.
This is not the first time Ford has recalled vehicles due to a rollaway risk. The report says that in April Ford recalled approximately 250,000 Explorer SUVs for a similar issue.
