Florida Atlantic University Mourns English Instructor Killed in Broward County Crash
As Florida recognizes Hit-and-Run Awareness Month during the month of February, the state grapples with a series of serious car crashes that have left dozens of Floridians dead in recent months. One such crash took the life of a local college instructor in late January.
WPTV.com reports that 38-year-old English instructor Justin Waldron was killed in a crash on January 23 in Broward County. Waldron was stopped at a traffic light in Lighthouse Point when a vehicle struck the vehicle in which Waldron was traveling from behind, setting both vehicles ablaze. Waldron died from the injuries he sustained in the crash.
In a cruel twist of irony Waldron’s mother recounts that the day of his death “was the anniversary of his father’s death, and he went to see his sister and spend the evening with his sister, and he was on his way home.”
Justin had been an English instructor at Florida Atlantic University where he had graduated with a political science degree in 2008. He was reportedly in the process of being promoted to a senior instructor position at the time of his death.
On the school website, FAU posted that “Justin left a lasting impact on his colleagues, who will remember him as a ‘departmental workhorse’ and someone they could always count on to help in times of need.”
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
