Fatal Boat Crash Leads to Criminal Charges
A serious boat crash that occurred in mid-May is leading to criminal charges.
ChronicleOnline.com reports that the crash occurred when an 18-foot Dynasty boat, carrying six people, was heading out of Hampden Lake and ran into a culvert at about 5:22 p.m.
One of the victims of the crash, a 22-year-old from Gainesville, was thrown from the vessel and then struck by the boat’s propeller, causing fatal injuries.
Another victim, a 20-year-old from Clearwater, also suffered injuries.
In a report, officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Division of Law Enforcement indicate that alcohol was likely a factor in the crash.
The report also indicates that as of early June arrests were pending.
