At some point, a good Samaritan attempted to assist the victim. “There was a man who tried to help this woman as she was holding on to the elevated bridge, but unfortunately he was not able to rescue her,” said an official with the West Palm Beach Police Department.
The victim was not able to hold onto the bridge and she fell approximately 50 to 60 feet onto the mechanical parts of the bridge below. She reportedly died on impact.
The report indicates that a company called Florida Drawbridge, Inc. has a contract with the Florida Department of Transportation to tend to Florida bridges.
Authorities are now investigating how this tragedy could have happened.
