The bus collided with both pickups, striking the first then traveling some distance before striking the second pickup. The force of the impact pushed the second pickup off the road, killing the truck’s 75-year-old driver. The driver of the first truck was not seriously injured in the crash.
Rescue workers transported the school bus driver to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. One theory is that the bus driver may have suffered a medical emergency preceding the crash.
The bus was carrying 29 students at the time of the crash. The students only received minor injuries.
