Chrysler Recalls Vehicles Due to Faulty Tire Pressure Sensor

Chrysler is recalling tens of thousands of vehicles due to a potentially defective tire pressure monitor.

ConsumerReports.org reports that when the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) fails it may not alert drivers to low tire pressure, increasing the risk of a crash.

Due to the defect, the vehicles may not comply with certain federal safety standards, including Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 138 which states that vehicles must be equipped with tire pressure monitors that detect “when one or more of a vehicle’s tires is significantly under-inflated and illuminates a low tire pressure warning telltale.”

The report does not indicate whether there have been any injuries or crashes related to the defect.
