BMW Recalls Over 900,000 Vehicles in the U.S. Due to Defect That Can Cause Fire

Automaker BMW is recalling over a million vehicles worldwide due to a defect that could cause the automobiles to catch fire.

News18.com reports that approximately 917,000 cars and SUVs are subject to the recall in the United States, with an additional approximately 120,000 subject to recall in Canada and South Korea.

The defect affecting the vehicles can cause an electrical short in the positive crankcase ventilation valve heater, which can result in overheating and even fire.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected vehicles include approximately six models manufactured between 2006 and 2013.

The report did not indicate that anyone had been harmed as a result of the defect.
