Chevy Bolt Recalled Due to Fire Risk
General Motors is recalling Chevy Bolt vehicles due to a defect that could cause the vehicles to catch fire.
ConsumerReports.com reports that GM announced the recall as a result of two rare simultaneous defects “found in the same battery cell, made during module manufacturing process, the root cause of battery fires in certain Chevy Bolt EVs.”

General Motors has reportedly isolated the issues and devised a fix that involves a software update.
In the meantime, GM recommends that the Bolt owners take certain precautions including charging the vehicles after every use, avoiding depleting the batteries to under 70 miles of range, and only charging the vehicles outside due to the danger of fire.
The report indicates that the Chevy Bolt model years 2017-2019 are affected. Model year 2020 is reportedly not affected.
