$12 Million Award Ordered as Compensation for Fatal Florida Keys Crash
On March 5, 2018, a crash on the Florida island of Islamorada resulted in the death of four tourists who were visiting Florida from Spain. Now, a jury is ordering the company that was found responsible for the crash pay the victims’ families a total of $11.8 million.
MiamiHerald.com reports that Discount Rock & Sand, a construction company, was negligent in the crash according to a jury finding last week. In particular, the report says that the plaintiff’s lawyers argued that the company was negligent in screening and training its drivers, resulting in one of the drivers rear-ending the victims.
After six hours of deliberation over two days, the jury returned a verdict of $1 million apiece to each of the four victims’ parents, and $360,000 to each of their estates.
