Brightline Trains Under Scrutiny after Multiple Pedestrian Collisions and Deaths
Florida’s new train system, the Brightline train, has been responsible for striking at least six people since its inauguration, three of whom were killed. The incidents are raising questions about the trains’ safety and authorities are new investigating how to keep the public safe.
The most recent incident involving a Brightline train occurred on March 11th when a train struck a pedestrian as it traveled northbound near Forest Hill Boulevard in West Palm Beach. The victim of the collision was killed.
As of now, at least some of the Brightline trains do not use “positive train control”, which according to TCPalm.com is “ is a system used by railroads that combines command, control, communications and information systems to control train movement and increase safety.”
