Walmart Recalls Aromatherapy Spray Due to Deadly Bacteria Contamination
Walmart has issued a recall of an aromatherapy spray that contains potentially deadly bacteria.
WVSN.com reports that the nation’s largest retailer is recalling 3,900 bottles of Better Homes and Gardens-branded essential oil-infused aromatherapy room spray with gemstones because the bottles could be contaminated with a dangerous bacteria called Burkholderia pseudomallei.
CDC.gov reports that Burkholderia pseudomallei can cause a disease called Melioidosis, also known as Whitmore’s disease. Symptoms include pain and swelling, fever, and abscesses and when the infection spreads to the lungs it can cause cough and chest pain.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control has conducted tests on the recalled product and confirmed that at least four cases of Melioidosis have resulted from the aromatherapy spray. Two of those four cases were fatal.
Consumers with the recalled product in their possession should avoid opening the bottles. Instead, they may enclose the bottles in a ziplock and return them to Walmart for a full refund.
