Up to 39 Migrants Missing After Boat Capsizes Off Florida Coast
A boat caring dozens of people capsized earlier this week, leaving at least 39 people missing.
Local10.com reports that the missing migrants were aboard the vessel when it capsized about 45 miles off Fort Pierce Inlet on Saturday night.
A Good Samaritan rescued one of the 40 people who had been aboard the vessel and the survivor informed authorities of the other 39 missing travelers. Apparently, they had set off from Bimini Saturday night.
“Coast Guard air and surface asset crews are actively searching for people in the water,” said the Coast Guard in a statement, adding that this is apparently a “human smuggling venture.”
