CruiseHive.com reports that the crew member worked on the Royal Caribbean Vision of the Seas cruise ship and may have been performing some kind of work on the external part of the ship when he fell. The work apparently required a safety harness.
The Man was identified only as a 25-year-old Filipino who was working on the the starboard side of the ship when he fell overboard Thursday.
Though the exact conditions surrounding the victim’s fall are unclear, published reports do indicate that he was in the water for some time before divers eventually retrieved his body from the sea. The ship was on a 12-day itinerary out of Barcelona, Spain, and calling on the port Livorno, Italy at the time of the incident.
