One Dead Following Head-On Collision on State Road 471
A head-on collision left one person dead Sunday morning.
ClickOrlando.com reports that the crash occurred at about 11:00pm at State Road 471 and State Road 50. Florida Highway Patrol says that a 27-year-old man from Tampa was driving north on SR-471 when he crossed into oncoming traffic in an attempt to pass a vehicle that was driving in front of him. After crossing into the southbound lane the SUV and a semi truck collided head-on.
The force of the collision launched the SUV onto the shoulder, killing its driver. The driver of the semi suffered minor injuries.
This is the second time within the past week that we have blogged about a serious traffic crash involving a driver who attempted to pass another driver by crossing into oncoming traffic. On Friday we blogged that 13 people were hurt, 4 seriously, in a head-on crash on SR-82 when a 20-year-old driver crossed into oncoming traffic in an attempt to overtake another driver.
