The single-engine Cessna 172 apparently had three occupants inside it during the time of the crash. Two of the plane’s occupants survived the crash while the third, identified as Narciso Torres, did not.
The Federal Aviation Administration says that the plane lost power soon after departing from Fort Lauderdale on its way to Key West.
The force of the crash destroyed the front of the SUV and caused the plane to tumble and catch fire.
Witness Tony Mendez recounted, “You see the plane, it rolled over, and immediately you see black smoke and fire right after it.”
