Nine People Missing Off Coast of the Florida Keys
The U.S. Coast guard was searching for nine people who were missing off the coast of the Florida Keys Wednesday.
MiamiHerald.com reports that the missing people had been members of a 22-person group that set sail in the direction of South Florida from Cuba on Monday night. At the same time, Tropical Storm Elsa was beginning to affect the area with heavy winds and rains, making the passage more treacherous.
The U.S. Coast Guard sent a rescue team to assist the stranded boaters after a merchant ship noticed that they were in trouble about 26 miles from Key West. The Coast Guard found a capsized boat and was able to rescue a total of 13 people, including nine men and four women.

The Coast Guard continued the search into Wednesday and employed several assets including two cutters, two helicopters, and an airplane.
