News: Woman struck and killed walking on I-95 after getting flat tire
POMPANO BEACH, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said a woman was fatally struck on Interstate 95 in Pompano Beach Thursday morning after her car had gotten a flat tire.
According to NBC Miami, the woman pulled onto the shoulder of the highway after the car became disabled and was trying to walk across the northbound lanes near Copans Road at about 4 a.m. It was at that point that she was hit by a truck. The woman was pronounced dead at Broward Health North Medical Center.
The victim was a 21-year-old from Chesapeake, Virginia whose name has not yet been released. The driver was a 37-year-old man from Fort Lauderdale.
The crash caused major delays in the northbound lanes of I-95 after the interstate was shut down for hours near Atlantic Boulevard and Copans Road. Drivers were advised to seek alternate routes.
