News: Woman sentenced for I-95 crash that killed teen, injured mother
MIAMI, FL – A woman has been sentenced for a car crash on Interstate 95 that killed a teenager and injured his mother.
According to WSVN, 62-year-old Catherine Capozzi reached a plea deal that resulted in a sentence of 15 years in prison and seven years probation.
Authorities said Capozzi was speeding and driving under the influence in September 2019 when she slammed into a Nissan that was parked on the emergency shoulder of the express lanes of I-95 near Northwest 103rd Street.
A 15-year-old boy in the Nissan died in the wreck while his mother, Maria Vasco, was severely injured.
Capozzi was convicted of reckless vehicular homicide, DUI with serious bodily injury and DUI manslaughter.
