News: Woman on bicycle dies after being struck by hit-and-run driver in Dania Beach
DANIA BEACH, FL – The Broward County Sheriff’s Office says it is trying to locate a hit-and-run driver responsible for the death of a woman in Dania Beach Wednesday night.
In a news release, the sheriff’s office said deputies and local rescue crews responded to the 2300 block of West State Road 84 at about 11:30 p.m. after a report of a bicyclist struck by a vehicle.
Investigators determined that the victim was trying to get up after falling off her bicycle when she was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. NBC Miami reports she was identified by friends as 42-year-old Brenda Martinez, a mother of four.
The driver failed to stop after the incident and fled the scene, authorities said. The vehicle involved is described as a newer model, dark Chevrolet Silverado pickup.
Anyone with information about the crash was asked to contact the Broward Sheriff’s Office or Broward Crime Stoppers.
