News: Train slams into pickup in Broward County, killing driver
POMPANO BEACH, FL – A Brightline train was involved in a fatal collision with a vehicle in Pompano Beach early Monday morning, WSVN reports.
The train slammed into a pickup truck in the northbound lanes of North Dixie Highway near Sixth Street at about 5:30 a.m. The driver went around the gate while it was down to signal an oncoming train, according to Brightline officials.
The driver, 27-year-old Jacob Bresnahan, was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.
It was the latest in a series of recent accidents in which vehicles were hit by Brightline trains, and Brightline officials said the incident was another reminder to drivers to wait and not drive around the gates at railroad crossings.
North Dixie Highway was shut down in the area of the crash as part of the investigation by Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide detectives.
