News: Traffic snarled after tanker truck crash causes fuel spill on I-95 in Pompano Beach
POMPANO BEACH, FL – Drivers faced extensive traffic delays Tuesday morning following an accident involving a tanker truck in Pompano Beach.
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports the vehicle hit a median barrier wall and flipped onto its side on Interstate 95 north near Atlantic Boulevard at about 7 a.m. A second vehicle was also involved, but no injuries have been reported.
Officials said the accident caused punctures in the tanker, resulting in a fuel spill of about 9,000 gallons. I-95 was shut down in both directions in the area while firefighters worked to clean up the spill.
Drivers had to exit the interstate at Commercial Boulevard and Cypress Creek Road while the truck was being removed and the area was cleaned up. Major backups were reported and drivers were advised to seek alternate routes.
