News: Police arrest suspected driver in death of Miami teenager
MIAMI, FL – Police say they have arrested the alleged driver involved in the hit-and-run death of a teenager in Miami.
This is an update to a previous story.
According to WPLG, 60-year-old Jose Fimia was arrested on Friday in connection with the May 15 crash. Authorities say Fimia was driving a Toyota Corolla when he struck the 16-year-old victim in the area of the 79th Street Causeway after she had gone out for a jog, and then drove away from the scene. Her body was found the following day.
Detectives said Fimia tried to cover up his involvement in the incident by cleaning blood off the car and taking off the hubcaps. The car was discovered about a half mile from the crash scene.
Fimia faces multiple charges including vehicular homicide/failure to stop, leaving the scene of a crash causing death, and tampering with physical evidence. He was arraigned on Saturday, with bond set at $400,000.
