News: Off-duty police officer hospitalized following crash in SW Miami-Dade
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL – A crash on the Don Shula Expressway in southwest Miami-Dade Friday morning injured an off-duty Coral Gables police officer, according to NBC Miami.
The accident happened in the northbound lanes near Killian Parkway at about 6:30 a.m. The Florida Highway Patrol said the officer was in her personal vehicle, a Toyota sedan, when she was hit by a pickup truck. The Toyota then hit a guardrail. Investigators said the incident occurred after the driver of the pickup lost control of the vehicle while trying to enter the expressway.
The officer, whose name was not released, sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital. The driver of the pickup was not injured.
The FHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
