News: Man on scooter struck, killed by vehicle in Pompano Beach
POMPANO BEACH, FL – The Broward County Sheriff’s Office released details regarding a fatal scooter crash earlier this month in Pompano Beach.
The accident happened Sept. 1 in the area of North Dixie Highway and East Copans Road.
Detectives said 49-year-old Gary Thornton was riding a JBLC scooter west on East Copans Road when he turned left to go across the roadway inside of the crosswalk. He then entered the path of a Kia Forte driven by 49-year-old Nicole Constantino of Pompano Beach.
Thornton was struck by the vehicle and fell to the ground. The victim, a Fort Lauderdale resident, died Sept. 19 at Broward Health North. Constantino stayed at the scene and cooperated with deputies.
The incident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
