News: Man kite surfing dies after crashing into Fort Lauderdale home
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – An accident in Fort Lauderdale Wednesday morning claimed the life of a kite surfer, reports WPLG.
Authorities said the man had launched into the air from a beach shortly before 10 a.m., but lost control because of strong winds that had moved into the area.
He slammed into the wall of a home in the vicinity of Northeast 27th Street and North Ocean Boulevard. Fort Lauderdale Fire Chief Stephen Gollan said the surfer had not been able to release from the kite in a timely manner, according to WSVN.
The man was pronounced dead at Broward Health Medical Center several hours later. He was identified by friends in news reports as Fred Salter, a man in his 60s.
