News: Man charged with vehicular homicide in fatal 2020 crash in Margate
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – A man has been arrested and is now facing charges in connection with a deadly crash in Broward County last year, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
24-year-old Malik Neufville of Fort Lauderdale is charged with vehicular homicide and reckless driving with damage to a person or property. The incident occurred on February 24, 2020, when Neufville was driving a Ford Ranger pickup truck on State Road 7 in Margate at about 1:30 p.m.
Investigators said he was trying to pass a Toyota Corolla when his pickup sideswiped the car and he lost control. Neufville’s vehicle went across a median and three traffic lanes before slamming into a bus stop near Southwest 6th Street and killing a man who was sitting on a bench there, 43-year-old Wesner Fevrier.
Authorities said Neufville was driving at almost 90 miles an hour just before the crash, nearly twice the speed limit.
Neufville appeared on court on Wednesday and is being held at the Broward Jail in lieu of a $75,500 bond.
