MIAMI, FL – A man has been arrested for a wrong-way crash that killed another driver in Miami Gardens last week, according to WPLG.
This is an update to a previous story.
Irwin Rockwell of Ochopee, Florida has been charged with vehicular homicide in the case. Rockwell was allegedly driving a Chevy SUV south in the northbound express lanes of Interstate 95 near the Golden Glades Interchange last Tuesday at about 5 a.m.
Rockwell’s vehicle collided with a Subaru SUV that was going north. The impact caused the second vehicle to go over a concrete wall and fall 300 feet to the ground, where it caught fire.
The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Subaru was critically injured and transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Unit.
Rockwell was also critically injured and taken to Aventura Hospital. Authorities are awaiting the results of toxicology tests to determine whether he was driving under the influence.
